Batch and Lot Traceability in Research Materials
How batch and lot numbers connect a physical vial to its documentation — and why one generic certificate is not enough.
Batch vs. lot
A batch is a quantity of material produced in a single manufacturing run. A lot is a defined quantity — often a batch or part of one — identified by a unique number for tracking and documentation.
Why traceability matters
Analytical results describe the material that was actually tested. Traceability links a specific vial to the specific batch that was analyzed, so a researcher can evaluate documentation that applies to the material in hand.
A single generic certificate reused across many lots provides no lot-specific information.
Using the Lab Documentation search
The Steel Peptides Lab Documentation page can be searched by compound, batch number or lot number. Enter the number exactly as printed on the label. If no record is found, documentation for that lot has not yet been published.
